Literary Festival/Public Affairs - Israel, Loose Nukes and the End of the Worst-Kept Secret

Professor Avner Cohen, author of The Worst-Kept Secret: Israel’s Bargain with the Bomb, and journalist Ron Rosenbaum, author
of How the End Begins: The Road to a Nuclear World War III, sit down with distinguished journalist and former network correspondent Marvin Kalb to discuss the history and risks of Israel’s nuclear ambiguity and worst-case-scenarios in an age of atomic anxiety.

Avner Cohen is a senior fellow at the Washington Office of the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, Monterey Institute of International Studies. He is the author of Israel and the Bomb and the coeditor of Nuclear Weapons and the Future of Humanity and The Institution of Philosophy.

Ron Rosenbaum is a bestselling author whose most recent books include Explaining Hitler: The Search for the Origins of His Evil; The Shakespeare Wars: Clashing Scholars, Public Fiascoes, Palace Coups; and The Secret Parts of Fortune. In addition, he edited an anthology on anti-Semitism, Those Who Forget the Past, and co-wrote an award-winning PBS Frontline documentary, Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero. He is currently a cultural columnist for Slate.

Marvin Kalb, a guest scholar at The Brookings Institution, is the Murrow Professor Emeritus at Harvard and a former network correspondent. He spent 30 years as an award-winning reporter for CBS News and NBC News. Kalb has authored or coauthored nine nonfiction books and two best-selling novels. His most recent book, co-authored with his daughter, is about the haunting legacy of Vietnam.
