Great Chefs Cooking Series!

GREAT CHEFS COOKING SERIES BEGINS!

Bethesda Jewish Congregation continues to offer outstanding community events and will launch it’s Great Chefs Community Cooking Series on Sunday, October 12 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm with Chef Todd and Ellen Kassoff Gray. The owners of the wildly successful Equinox and Watershed restaurants will chronicle their rise to the top of DC’s vibrant culinary scene, and prepare a signature dish as a demonstration.

The Grays published their first book, The New Jewish Table, in 2013. It examines their culinary and personal lives, and reveals how rewarding the sharing of two people’s traditions — and meals — can be. The couple uses their creativity and leadership to inspire change — they are among D.C.’s leading advocates for sustainable agriculture and fisheries, and for humanely raised animals. As well, they encourage stewardship of the Chesapeake Bay area’s natural resources by supporting regional producers that champion sustainable practices. As a part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Chefs Move to Schools” program, Todd and Ellen were recognized by White House for their dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles for students and their families.
Future Great Chefs guests include: food historian and columnist Sheilah Kaufman (December 21), an expert on Mediterranean cooking and Jewish culinary history and traditions; BJC member and world traveler Mark Hetfield (February 22), who will discuss his visits to the country of Georgia and prepare its traditional ‘khachapuri’ (cheese bread); and, award-winning Chef Enzo Fargione (April 19), author of Visual Eats: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Modern Italian Cooking.
Single-session admission is $12/members and $15/nonmembers or the entire series of 4 visiting chefs is $40/members and $50/nonmembers. Call 301-469-8636 to reserve or visit www.bethesdajewish.org/registration.
