What Issues Remain between Catholics and Jews?

It is nearly sixty years since the Vatican issued the famous pronouncement Nostra Aetate, which radically altered two thousand years of painful relations between Catholics and Jews. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, great progress was achieved on resolving tensions between our two communities by Pope John Paul II and specific Jewish leaders. Yet, despite all of the progress, some issues remain unresolved. What are those issues, and what direction are we headed in?

Cynthia Peterman is a veteran Jewish history teacher at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School (Upper School), where she teaches a course entitled “Church-Jewish Relations: From Disputation to Dialogue.
