The Forgotten Refugees - Egypt - Film

Category :: Movie
The film, “The Jews of Egypt”, follows the lives of the Egyptian-Jewish community in the 20th century until many left, under duress in the 1950’s. The film-maker, Amir Ramses (joining by Skype from Cairo) tries to answer the question “how did the Jews of Egypt turn, in the eyes of their fellow Egyptians, from partners in the same country to enemies?”
Ramses and co-writer, Mostafa Youssef, interviewed political figures, researchers and some of the few remaining Egyptian Jews.The exodus was linked to general persecution, Arab-Israeli conflicts and the resentment of Egyptian leadership to the establishment of the State of Israel. The film was banned, until recently in Egypt but has won acclamation and awards at film festivals.
