The 5th Annual Dodge, Dip, Dive, Duck and...... Dodgbe ball tournament for Sick Kids. Presented by G

Category :: Young Adult
Hello once and future dodgeballers,

It is that time of year again. The sun is shining brighter, the flowers are blooming, and the dodgeballs are taking flight.

That’s right...

It’s time for the 5th Annual Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, and Dodge for SickKids. This year’s event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 6th at Garnet A. Williams Community Centre. Teams are to be co-ed, with six members or more and at least two members of each gender. The day will start with a round-robin of three matches, followed by double elimination playoffs. Thus, each team is guaranteed a minimum of five matches.

As in past years, we’ve had incredible support from local businesses. For you, this means great prizes. Prizes will be given out for dodgeball excellence (top placing teams, MVP, etc.), fundraising efforts, and spirit (i.e. team uniforms). As always in dodgeball and life, costumes or team uniforms are highly encouraged, and the best or most hilarious efforts will be rewarded with prizes. In the past, neon, spandex, high socks, matching colours, clashing colours, moustaches, blue jeans, aviators, and hawaiian shirts have all been used to intimidate and generally confuse the opposition. However, the shock of seeing six Magnum P.I.’s lining up to pitch foam balls at you and your friends wears off. How are YOU going to step it up this year?

This brings us to what this event is all about: a great day filled with food, drink, music, prizes, and, of course, lots of dodgeball, AND raising money for a great cause. With your support, the first four years of the tournament have raised over $10,000 for the SickKids Foundation. Over the years, participants have increasingly taken it upon themselves to seek out sponsorships from friends and family, and we cannot thank you enough for those efforts. As we try to keep the tournament entry fee low ($20 per person) to ensure that all can participate, it is those sponsorships that make up a significant portion of the money that the event raises for charity. It is truly our pleasure to organize this tournament every year, and we are always grateful for the incredible kindness, sportsmanship, and generosity we see throughout the event. We ask that you join us, not only in a great day of dodgeball, but in our commitment to the event as a whole and its support of the SickKids Foundation. We encourage you to speak to your friends and family about the event, both about coming out to participate as players or spectators and about sponsoring your own participation. Thank you in advance for your efforts.

***Start organizing your teams now.*** Designate a captain and have them e-mail Shane Slater ([email protected]) with the captain’s name, team name, and the expected number of team members. Even if these details are not finalized, please e-mail if know that you will be fielding a team.

The tournament has always been filled with exciting dodgeball, and we know the energy, tenacity and courage of ALL you ball dodgers out there will shine threw every throw, catch and dodge in this years tourny. We are looking forward to another great day of dodgeball, and we hope to see you all there! Please pass this information along to anybody you know that may be interested.
