PARADE the musical that began ADL

Category :: Theatre
YORK REGION PREMIERE OF THE TONY AWARD WINNING MUSICAL

PARADE

by JASON ROBERT BROWN

A BRILLIANT MUSICAL with an explosive story and a magnificent cast. This freshly conceived production zings the intellect, breaks the heart and roils the blood. A soaring musical experience based upon a true story which began the ANTI DEFAMATION LEAGUE

The Anti-Defamation League was founded in 1913 "to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all ADL fights anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry, defends democratic ideals and protects civil rights for all.

Parade tells the story of Leo Frank, a Jewish man accused of murdering a thirteen-year-old factory girl in a small town in Georgia in 1913. Witness a people that thirst for a conviction, the gripping court room drama that subsequently unfolds.

Parade shows a quest for justice which is resisted by a world filled with racial and religious tensions but ultimately illustrates the enduring power of love and self-belief against all odds.

The case of Leo M. Frank, the most important criminal proceeding of the 20th century, has been the subject of dozens of books, and hundreds of articles in magazines, newspapers, and scholarly journals. The modern historical consensus is that in addition to being apparently the only Jewish person ever lynched in American history, he was also the first white man convicted by the testimony of a person of African decent. As two historians who closely studied his case wrote in 1956: "Leo Frank was the victim of one of the most shocking frame-ups ever perpetrated by American law-and-order officials." "Future writers ... will unanimously admit that Leo M. Frank was the victim of a biased sentiment, that his judicial rights were denied him, and that his hanging on a lonely oak was the climax of a series of flagrant violations of justice." Amid religious intolerance, political injustice and racial tension, this stirring 1999 TONY AWARD winning musical features a powerful score . Be sure
not to miss one of the most thrilling evenings of a theatre lovers life time

Through this musical the audience will gain insight to the true nature of prejudice and how our inability to face our own biases separates us in ways that we may not even think about.
