Origin & History of the Jews of India, a lecture by Dianna Mingail
A spellbinding story set in India, going back 2000+ years, about the four Jewish communities of India: the Bene Israel and Baghdadi Jews of Bombay; the Jews of Cochin; the Baghdadi Jews of Calcutta; and the Bnei Menashe .
It is a fascinating tale of shipwreck off the west coast of India which led to the rise of the Bene Israel community; about the Jews of Cochin and of their tiny Jewish kingdom in S.W. India; about an adventurous 26-year-old Jew who founded Calcutta’s Baghdadi Jewish community: and about the Bnei Menashe, whose travels brought them from Assyrian captivity through China to north-eastern India. Diana talks about the origin and history of these communities, and about the politics and partitioning of India. Some personal history is included.
Diana has spoken about India to many Jewish and some Christian audiences, and has appeared in two television documentaries relating to Jewish India. She bases her presentation about the Jews of India on her own knowledge and experiences as well as meticulous and ongoing research
