Now enrolling for fall 2013, Makom’s Downtown Jewish Playschool is an innovative, alternative after school program for children in JK through Grade 2, hosted in a local public school (near College & Spadina) from 3:20 to 5:30pm during the school year. Children in the downtown core attend their neighbourhood public (or other) school and also gain a high-quality Jewish education and a warm Jewish peer community. Daily sessions and a small class size provide real continuity and growth opportunities for students while also meeting the after-school childcare needs of working parents.
Each week, Playschool offers four days of Hebrew-language immersive play and one day of creative and substantive Jewish education. Children can enroll for four days of Hebrew immersion, one day of Jewish learning, or all five days. Our Jewish learning model is play-based, teaching Jewish culture and traditions in a pluralistic and inclusive fashion, fostering creativity and independent thinking, spirituality, nature appreciation, outdoor physical activity, and Jewish ethics (including social and environmental values). Hebrew language learning is immersive and consists of arts & crafts, outdoor play, drama, sports, etc., all in Hebrew.
At the information night, you’ll meet parents whose children are currently enrolled in the program and hear more about plans for next year.
