Too often we walk through life with a heart closed to ourselves and the world, trying to protect ourselves from being hurt and overwhelmed and so missing the fullness and beauty of life. At other times, we seem flooded and overcome by the raging waters of emotion and lose ourselves in anger, self-pity, anxiety and confusion. Yet there is a middle way, as the sages describe it, between the ice of emotional numbness and the burning fire of emotional explosion, it is the open heart of love and compassion. Over this week, using the techniques of mindfulness, prayer, silence and other spiritual practices we will gently open our heart to the profound truth of Divinity and make ourselves a sanctuary in which the Divine can dwell.
This weeklong retreat will be founded on mindfulness meditation in various postures and will be held by the container of silence*. Meditation instruction and teachings will be given by the teachers each day who are there to support every participant in his or her practice. There will be opportunities each day for questions by participants and regular group and individual meetings with teachers. Yoga will be offered most days.
Participants are welcome to follow their own particular religious practices and traditions on the retreat which is open to everyone. Prayer will take various forms on the retreat and participants are invited to participate as feels appropriate and possible for them. Food, provided by 12 Tribes will be kosher, vegetarian, mostly organic, and delicious, and communal spaces will be shomer Shabbat (Shabbat observant).
Registration by November 20!
