Chag Rosh Hashana Sameach!
JIMENA excitedly invites you, your family, and friends to a festive Rosh Hashanah Seder and vegetarian potluck picnic in Golden Gate Park.
For nearly 2,000 years, Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews around the world have ushered in the Jewish New Year by joyously blessing and eating symbolic foods. In the Talmud, Rabbi Abaye suggests that foods growing abundantly and symbolizing prosperity be eaten in hopes of a sweet, prosperous year. Many Mizrahi and Sephardic families have incorporated a unique seder into their Rosh Hashana meal with some or all of the following foods:
Apples for Sweetness
Dates for Peace
Green Beans for Prosperity
Pomegranate for Miztvot
Pumpkin for Happiness
Beetroot Leaves for Freedom
Leeks for Friendship
Head of Lettuce for Leadership
We are looking forward to ushering in the New Jewish year of 5772 with you and we hope you will bring wine and vegetarians foods that incorporate the foods mentioned above.
Everyone is welcome! Please RSVP to
