Join Barak Marshall and his mother Margalit Oved, founding member and former Artistic Director of Inbal Dance Theatre, for a special conversation and presentation on their unique dance forms, from ethnic to contemporary. This event will be held in ENGLISH.
Margalit Oved was born in Yemen in 1934 and immigrated to Tel Aviv as a teenager. Through dance, singing, acting, and choreography Oved tells the story of Jews indigenous to the Arabian Peninsula. Using the style and sounds of her childhood in Yemen, Oved explores biblical, familial and mystical themes. In the late 1960’s Oved re-located to Los Angles and began teaching at UCLA while building her solo repertoire.
Oved’s professional accomplishments have been recognized with three choreography awards from the National Endowment for the Arts. Hadassah, honored her for her contributions to Jewish culture with the Myrtle Wreath Award. Margalit’s strong influence on her contemporaries is helping to preserve ancient Jewish dance and music from Yemen.
