East End Temple, Congregation El Emet, was founded in 1948 by a group of World War II veterans and their families. East End Temple’s mission is to offer resources and support for living meaningful lives in a Jewish way. Our clergy, our staff, our members, and our kids, create rich spiritual, communal, and educational experiences. Led by Rabbi David Adelson, Cantor Shira Ginsburg, Director of Congregational Learning Sara Blumstein RJE, and President Karen Feuer, we are large enough to have a diverse membership, and small enough to extend a warm welcome to everyone.
Reform Judaism affirms the central tenets of God, Torah and Israel as it also accepts the diversity of Jewish beliefs and practices. Tikkun olam — repairing the world — is a hallmark of Reform Judaism, with the goal of pursuing justice for all people.
Our downtown Reform congregation reflects the interests, diversity and energy of the New York Jewish community: we are men, women, and children of all ages; Jewish and interfaith, single and partnered; straight and gay; socially responsible and personally spiritual; traditional and liberal; and everything in between. We have hearing enhancement devices and large-print prayer books always available at the entrance to the sanctuary. Our building is accessible to those with mobility challenges.
Our innovative and engaging Religious School begins in pre-kindergarten and continues through tenth grade. We are dedicated to learning as a fundamental facet of Jewish life, with Hebrew incorporated into our curriculum from the earliest grades.
