The Book: This is How You Lose Her by Junot Diaz
With surprising tenderness, Junot Diaz comically weaves stories about philandering and decidedly unromantic behavior in This is How You Lose Her. A quick read, the main character’s voice, which one New York Times critic called spiced with a “healthy helping of Spanish, but fluent in the languages of hip-hop, sci-fi, nerd-dom, the drug culture and — lest you thought you had him pegged — the academy,” keeps readers on their crocodile-shoed toes. This is How You Lose Her explores the dirtier crevices of love, also touching on the Dominican immigrant experience and family.
The Discussion Leader: Lindsey Blank
Lindsey Blank, Esq., is the managing director of a memorial foundation, which supports innovative education and Yiddish language study. Lindsey has worked at the Anti-Defamation League and as a legal editor at Oxford University Press. In her free time, Lindsey volunteers as a human rights advocate, works as a freelance editor, and publishes personal essays under a pen name (or several).
