In 1947, ten unseaworthy ships set sail on a secret mission, manned by American volunteers, to rescue displaced European Jews and smuggle them across the British blockade of Palestine. This film follows one of those ships, whose 27 volunteers picked up 2,000 Jews, battled three British destroyers, and dug an escape tunnel out of a Cyprus internment camp. This moving film captures the lives and ideals of young men who risked personal freedom to give stricken Jews a chance at theirs. Followed by a discussion with some of the volunteers. Moderated by Jon Kesselman. Co-sponsored by The Forward.
