the story of jo-beth

Category :: Theatre
Book, Music & Lyrics by Daniel Maté
Co-conceived by Erin Ortman and Daniel Maté
Directed by Michelle Tattenbaum
The Story of Jo-Beth is a musical retelling of the Biblical book of Job, set in modern-day Midwestern America. It follows the travails of a seventeen-year-old overachiever who abruptly goes from local heroine to town pariah, and has to confront the prospect of losing everything—including her faith in humanity.

Presented as part of the
First Look/Deeper Look Musical Theater Series
Join us for a new series of Jewish-themed musicals. Come take a First Look at staged readings of musical theater in development. Hear and discuss new works as they get ready for their first productions. Meet the writers, and be part of the creative process. Then, come take a Deeper Look at musicals that are already on Broadway or Off-Broadway. Be a part of a moderated discussion with the creative teams, led by New York Magazine culture writer Jesse Green.
