Within the provocative world of the early 20th century urban Greek Café Amans and on this side of the Atlantic there were a surprising number of celebrated Greek Jewish female vocalists. While celebrated for their contributions to urban Greek cafe music known as Rebetika and Ianniotika, and to the recorded history of Sephardic music in America, the stories of these Jewish women are not widely known. Acclaimed vocalist Carol Freeman will present songs made famous by these women, interweaving excepts from their personal histories, accompanied by virtuoso instrumentalists from the Smyrneiki Kompania.
