East End Temple invites you to join us on Friday, October 14, for Simchat Shabbat, our monthly enhanced shabbat series. Service starts at 6:15 pm and is followed by a casual dinner and program. Immediately following the program, dessert and coffee will be served. Simchat Shabbat is FREE and open to the entire community. No RSVP is necessary.
October's program is:
Fighting Hunger in a World of Plenty:
Repairing Our Global Food System
with
Ruth Messinger, President
American Jewish World Service
Join Ruth Messinger, President of American Jewish World Service, to learn about the politics of the global food crisis. Speaking from her experiences in developing countries—from Ethiopia to El Salvador; India to Ghana—Ruth will explain how American Jews can put pressure on our government to reform food aid policies that exacerbate hunger and poverty. She will also highlight the grassroots projects that AJWS supports in Africa, Asia and the Americas. Sharing testimonies from dedicated volunteers—students, community leaders and skilled professionals—Ruth will attest to the transformative impact we can make as global citizens working for a more just world.
