HURRICANE SANDY ONE YEAR LATER: Lessons Learned, Next Steps, and How are New Yorkers Adjusting to "the New Normal"?

Hurricane Sandy had a devastating impact on the New York area. Whole neighborhoods were destroyed. Families went weeks without power and resources. Now, a year later, how is the recovery coming? What has been accomplished, and what still needs to be done? Will we be any better prepared for the next one?

TCC member Helene Lauffer will report on her experience as the Program Director for the New York State Disaster Case Management Program, operated by Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of New York. Prior to this, Helene was the Associate Executive Director at Spence-Chapin Services, where she supervised international and domestic adoption as well as birth parent, child care, and post-adoption services. In January 2002 she joined the September 11th Fund, with responsibility for grantmaking and program management in the areas of mental health, health care, case management, and bias stemming from the September 11 attacks.

Adult Perspectives is the name of our Sunday Adult Education program. These sessions are led by Rabbi Peter Schweitzer or by a member of the congregation. TCC Members occasionally participate on panel discussions and guest speakers, including our own members, are also invited to make special presentations.

Adult Perspectives meets twice a month on Sundays from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM at 15 West 86th Street (SAJ) in Manhattan. There is no charge and all are welcome to attend.

All dates and programs are subject to change. To confirm events and for more information, contact the office at 212-213-1002 or [email protected].
