THE HOUSING CIRCUS! Performed by CONCRETE JUSTICE
Presented by Theatre of the Oppressed NYC (TONYC)
Concrete Justice is a collective of homeless and formerly homeless artists who develop scripts based on the real-life experiences of the ensemble. The Housing Circus! focuses on the welfare benefit and housing systems and the challenge of getting placed in affordable housing after playing the shelter game.
TONYC is an interactive methodology that is used to investigate situations in which we are denied our basic rights, personally and collectively. Community actors, directors, playwrights, designers and producers create original, interactive plays inspired by real-life struggles for human rights. The audience then engages in theatrical brainstorming and come up with ideas to remedy problems they see on stage. They take on the role of “spect-actors” and actually try out their ideas on stage. These interactive forums inspire solidarity amongst diverse New Yorkers and creatively challenge systems of oppression.
This will be TONYC's 3rd annual presentation at TCC! Don't miss it!
A donation of $10 will be appreciated to defray costs and support the efforts of the Concrete Justice ensemble.
