Shabbat Service & Cultural Program - AFTER BAR/BAT MITZVAH, WHAT?

Category :: Educational
City Congregation Teens Think Back and Look Ahead

At their B’nai Mitzvah ceremonies, our young people proudly say, “Today I take my place among the Jewish people. I accept the responsibility that comes with this declaration.” But what happens next? Do these words continue to be meaningful two or three or five years later? Do feelings change in high school or college? Does Humanistic Judaism remain an important part of life? Are humanistic beliefs challenged by friends or by circumstances? What can The City Congregation offer our youngest adults?

In our program, a group of young people of a variety of post-mitzvah ages will share their reflections about these and other questions. We’ll then open the floor for discussion and invite further thoughts from the adults who celebrated their own bar and bat mitzvahs a generation or more ago. Have times changed? Does it make a difference identifying as a Humanistic Jew? Come find out and support our teens!

Please join us for a pot-luck dessert following our Shabbat service and cultural program. Childcare provided for children 11 and younger.

All are welcome at this free event.
