It’s one thing for Israel to face external threats. But what happens when the larger and more critical battle is internal, when what’s at stake is the future character of the country? According to Gideon Levy in Haaretz (Nov. 12, 2011), “The pretension of being an enlightened Western democracy is giving way, with terrifying speed, to a different reality – that of a benighted, racist, religious, ultranationalist, fundamentalist Middle Eastern country.” Partners for Progressive Israel, will provide a speaker to examine this issue with us.
Formerly known as MeretzUSA, Partners for Progressive Israel has two essential goals. First is the achievement of a durable and just peace between Israel and all its neighbors, especially the Palestinian people, based on a negotiated two-state solution. Second, and just as importantly, PPI is dedicated to the realization of human and civil rights, equality and social justice for all of Israel’s inhabitants – regardless of ethnic/religious identity, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation.
The cultural program and pot-luck desert follow Shabbat services. Childcare provided for children 11 and younger
