We have a fantastic opportunity for JICNY members to experience "the real Israel" right here in Manhattan. On February 22 at the JCC of Manhattan, there will be a special screening of short films from the Ma'aleh Film School of Jerusalem, along with a talented Ma'aleh director to discuss Israeli filmmaking.
We've watched a few Ma'aleh films, and they are great! Ma'aleh films are different from other Israeli films you may have seen. Grounded in Jewish tradition, they contain no vulgarity, no hard violence, and no sexual content. Instead, they are about real people, real issues - the real Israel. The films hard-hitting, and show all of the diversity, complexity and spirituality that is modern Israel. As the Jerusalem Post recently wrote, "Ma'aleh offers a religious perspective on moviemaking, and has developed a whole generation of young directors, who are quietly remaking the cinematic map."
If you've seen Srugim (created by Ma'aleh graduates), then you already know the quality of Ma'aleh films. And the best part is that the JCC of Manhattan is providing a special discount for JICNY members. JICNY members will receive the JCC member price of $8 for the evening, a 20% discount.
