Rock out with the Jewish Disaster Response Corps at our third annual "Real Estate Rockers in Relief". It is an evening of live music, good food and great company!
Proceeds from the concert will support the work of the JDRC which mobilizes volunteers to help rebuild domestic communities after natural disasters. The JDRC is a growing, cost effective not-for-profit which was initially founded as a student initiative at the Bronfman Center at NYU, and has grown to include active participants from almost fifty campuses across the country as well as Jewish camps and other volunteers. JDRC is an outstanding model of youth volunteerism and service learning, including study based on Jewish values and texts. It has also evolved to be a model of interfaith activity, hosting joint efforts of Jewish, Muslim and Christian students working side-by-side.
In 2013, JDRC‘s efforts focused on rebuilding in Joplin, MO following the devastating tornado of May, 2011 and long-term recovery in New York following Hurricane Sandy. In the past year, more than 150 volunteers put in thousands of hours of hard labor to help many families move back into their homes in Joplin, Missouri and Long Island and the Rockaways, New York. The JDRC was also on the ground in Central Oklahoma assisting in the immediate relief after the deadly spring tornadoes and will be involved in long term rebuilding in Oklahoma in the coming year. Combined, in 2013 JDRC participants logged over 4,500 hours in helping homeowners of limited means recover from the devastation to their homes and lives.
