From Ghetto to Palazzo: Works of Salamone Rossi

Category :: Concert
From Ghetto to Palazzo
Vocal works of Salamone Rossi Hebreo

An evening of songs for one to 5 voices by the Jewish Italian composer Salamone Rossi, (c. 1570 – 1630), performed by members of the Clarion Music Society in the Beth-El Chapel of Temple Emanu-El. The concert will present both liturgical works in Hebrew composed for the synagogue and secular Italian madrigals composed for the court.

Presenting the sacred music for clandestine services and the madrigals penned in the idiom of the dominant culture, the program will bring to light Rossi's connection to both the ghetto of his birth and the palazzo of his ambitions, reflecting upon the timeless balance between tradition and assimilation.

Tickets $25, must be purchased in advance.
