EXPLORING THE ANTHROPOLOGY OF HUMANISTIC JUDAISM

Category :: Lecture
How do we understand our Secular Humanistic Clan, Group, or Tribe?

Do we have specific legends or myths that inform us? Do we have linguistic patterns that identify us? Do we have a specific social structure, gender roles, peer connections? Are there boundaries to behavior and membership in the group? And what about rites and rituals? How do they bind the group together, re-enact our tribal myths, give us significance?

TCC member and anthropologist Aaron Glass will lead us in an exploration of these matters, along with his colleague Omri Elisha.

Aaron Glass is Assistant Professor at Bard Graduate Center with interests in art, material culture, museums, and the Native peoples of the Northwest Coast. Omri Elisha is Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Queens College. He is the author of Moral Ambition: Mobilization and Social Outreach in Evangelical Megachurches.

All are welcome at this free event.
