The Kobi Arad Band presents an experimental jazz tribute as part of the City Winery’s ‘Klezmer Brunch’ series to the legendary Jewish-Moroccan mystic Baba Sali on Sunday, October 28th at 11:00 am.
Kobi Arad is one the most prominent, prolific and versatile pianist-composers to emerge from Israel in recent years. Having collaborated with many great artists such as Stevie Wonder, Cindy Blackman and Jack DeJohnette, Kobi's soulful style brings together sprinklings of classical modern, jazz and neo-soul music that any lover of jazz would definitely enjoy.
The Kobi Arad Band’s City Winery show will present a tribute to the “Baba Sali”, Rav Yisrael Abuhatzeira (1890–1984), a legendary Moroccan Sephardic rabbi and a kabbalist miracle worker. The show features Kobi Arad’s striking compositions based on the Baba Sali’s songs as well as traditional Jewish niggunim (deep songs). Arad has a doctorate in the field of Contemporary Improvisation and Third Stream from the New England Conservatory and regularly studies kabbalah with Rav Shlomo Pinto, the great grandson of the Baba Sali.
