Author Peter Manseau on his book "The Butcher's Daughter"

Category :: Educational
The featured speaker for the Helene Spring Library Event is Peter Manseau, author of "Songs for the Butcher's Daughter", winner of the 2008 National Jewish Book Award.
The novel is a tale of a young Catholic whose love of language leads to a job as custodian of a library of Yiddish texts. He becomes translator of the story of the self-proclaimed "greatest Yiddish poet in America." The poet's story, from Eastern Europe's pogroms, to the Lower East Side, coupled with the translator's story, provides us with a window into a world and culture that has nearly disappeared and is a tribute to Yiddish language and culture.
Dessert reception and book-signing follow.
