Adult Perspectives - People of the Libretto: The Brill Building Edition

Category :: Lecture
The Brill Building, located at 1619 Broadway at 49th Street, is well known for housing music industry offices where some of the most famous American pop songs were written in the fifties and sixties. A uniquely talented group of Jewish songwriters – including Carole King, Burt Bacharach, Neil Sedaka, Leiber & Stoller, and Neil Diamond – fused R&B, Latin music, Broadway, and Tin Pan Alley into original sounds that changed the face of music forever. Songs like “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’,” “Twist and Shout,” “Love Will Keep Us Together,” “Teenager in Love,” “Under the Boardwalk,” “Walk on By,” “Leader of the Pack,” “Love Potion No. 9,” and “I Feel the Earth Move” were created in the Brill Building and will be performed in this show.

City Congregation member Jack Lechner will present the history of the era and the songs. The songs will be performed by congregation members Rachel Dahill-Fuchel, Jolie Elins, Trudy Elins, David Klein, Jennifer Naparstek Klein, Kim Kramer, Ryan Kramer, Jack Lechner, Beth Moed-Nelson, Naomi Moed-Nelson, Joshua Nelson, Jim Ryan, Michelle Lang Zalph, and Rose Lang Zalph. Louise Moed will provide piano accompaniment. Come enjoy this wonderful music!

This program is repeated from Friday, Jan. 25
