Documentary in which Australian immigrant and holocaust survivor Alex Kurzem journeys with his filmmaker son Mark Kurzem in search of his past in Russia. As a five year old orphan, Alex Kurzem was adopted as a mascot by the Nazi soldiers during the Second World War, after his family were killed. He was given a new name and identity with instructions never to reveal his Jewish heritage and taken in by a Latvian family who later migrated to Australia. Mark's voiceover tells his father's story which begins with Super-8 home movies about the childhood he shared with his brothers in Melbourne.
