Bestselling author Dani Shapiro will appear via Skype speaking about her latest memoir Devotion on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Jewish Public Library, 5151 Côte Ste-Catherine Road, Montreal. This event is part of the Legacy for Learning series “Conversations” A Jewish Women’s Literary Circle and is presented in conjunction with the Hadassah Brandeis Institute.
In her spiritual detective story, Shapiro explores the varieties of experience she has pursued – from the rituals of black hat Orthodox Jewish relatives to yoga shalas and meditation retreats. A reckoning of the choices she has made and the knowledge she has gained, Devotion is the story of a woman whose search for meaning ultimately leads her home. Her journey is at once poignant and funny, intensely personal – and completely universal.
Dani Shapiro is the bestselling author of the memoirs Devotion and Slow Motion and five novels. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Granta, Tin House, One Story, Elle, the New York Times Book Review, the Los Angeles Times, and has been widely anthologized. She has taught the writing programs at Columbia, NYU, The New School and Wesleyan University.
