Beth Shir Shalom Presents Cellist Lynn Harrell Performing Bruch's Kol Nidre

Category :: Community
beth shir shalom presents cellist lynn harrell performing bruchs kol nidre october 7 2011
Beth Shir Shalom’s High Holy Day Services come with strings attached.

As a holiday highlight, world-renown cellist Lynn Harrell will perform his Grammy-winning interpretation of Max Bruch’s “Kol Nidre” on Friday, October 7, at 7:30 pm. Harrell will be accompanied by the 15-piece Angeli Ensemble, with whom he recently recorded the CD "The Known Unknowns."

It has been 15 years since Harrell’s appearance at the Vatican where he performed Bruch’s “Kol Nidre” with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for a concert commemorating the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. “The memory continues to vibrate my soul,” says Harrell, “and I think of those ten minutes of music in my career and life as seminal to my personal growth as an artist and as a man.”

Other highlights of Beth Shir Shalom’s musical, moving and meaningful holiday observances, include topical sermons, traditional and original songs and prayers led by Rabbi Neil Comess-Daniels, Cantorial soloist Diane Rose, the Beth Shir Shalom TishTones Band and the 20-voice Temple choir.

“The performance by Lynn and the Angeli String Ensemble will make our High Holy Days even more special than usual,” assures Rabbi Comess-Daniels. “Their musical gifts will be the centerpiece of Beth Shir Shalom’s always unique and beautiful Yom Kippur eve services.”
