Ceremonial Art Workshop and Lecture with Tobi Kahn - Tuition: $300 May 22-24, 2011 (Lecture Sunday Afternoon-TBA)
Tobi Kahn, internationally reknowned Jewish painter and sculptor, will conduct this workshop on the redemptive possibilities and spiritual capacity of art. Each participant will design and create a unique ceremonial art object or "object of the Spirit"--related to your own faith and beliefs. Some materials will be pro- vided. You may bring additional materials to the workshop.
Tobi Kahn’s work has been shown in over 40 solo exhibitions and over 60 museums. Numerous awards include the Cultural Achievement Award for the Visual Arts from the National Founda- tion of Jewish Culture in 2004 and an Honorary Doctorate from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2007.
For twenty-eight years, he has taught fine arts workshops at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and designs art curriculum for several high schools in the New York area. “Objects of the Spirit: Ritual and the Art of Tobi Kahn,” a book about Kahn’s ceremonial art, was published in 2004 by Hudson Hill Press.
