Dallas Holocaust Museum Upstander Speaker Series: Romeo Dallaire

Category :: Lecture
Denying orders to withdraw and with little equipment or support, UN peacekeeping force commander Romeo Dallaire did what he could to save the lives of Rwandan people during the country’s tragic genocide, but it nearly cost him his sanity. After witnessing the inhumanity of the bloody civil war that killed hundreds of thousands of people in 1994, the retired lieutenant-general tried to commit suicide four times before emerging from the darkness of depression.
LGen Dallaire’s talk will be based on his most recent book, They Fight Like Soldiers; They Die Like Children – the Global Quest to Eradicate the Use of Child Soldiers, in which he introduces the Child Soldier phenomenon and solutions to eradicate it: a mission to which LGen Dallaire has committed the rest of his life.
