Pre-Purim Community Day

Category :: Community
Museum open 11am – 5pm
1pm—Family Mask-Making
3pm—Purim: Rated PG-13!
FREE with museum admission
Join us for an afternoon of activities—one for families that’s strictly PG-13 and will get you in the mood to celebrate this crazy holiday. Artist Wendy Mahon, born in Trinidad and who has worked extensively on the annual Parade the Circle festival, will help you make your own personalized Purim mask inspired by art from the Caribbean, Asia and Africa. At 3pm, Maltz Museum Manager of School & Family Programs Mark Davidson will lead an exploration of the concealed, darker currents of the Book of Esther, including scenes of mass drunkenness, sexual slavery, attempted genocide and Jewish revenge. Afterwards, we’ll take a brief tour of the Museum’s beautiful collection of Megillah scrolls from around the world.
