INFERNO - a film by Yael Bartana

Category :: Movie
The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage is proud to announce the Midwest premiere of Israeli artist Yael Bartana’s newest film, Inferno. Shot and edited with stylistic references to Hollywood blockbusters, the film addresses the building of a replica of Solomon's Temple by a Neo-Pentecostal Church in São Paulo, Brazil. The video had its U.S. debut at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) last year.

Among the most celebrated artists of her generation, Yael Bartana (b.1970) lives in Amsterdam, Tel Aviv and Berlin. Inferno addresses the temple project through a vision of its future: does its construction necessarily foreshadow its destruction? Using a powerful cinematic language, Inferno collapses histories of antiquity in the Middle East with a surreal present unfolding halfway around the world.

The 18 minute, high definition video will be screened continuously in the special exhibition gallery during museum hours. Associated events and programs will be announced at a later date.

Included with museum admission.
