ot tashlich program october 2 2011
"Tashlich" (which literally means "to throw" or "to dispose of"), is a ritual performed every year during the 10 days between the Jewish New Year and Yom Kipur (the day of atonement). The name "Tashlich" and the practice itself are derived from a passage in the Torah (Micah 7:18-20), which is usually recited at the ceremony: "You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea."

In Tashlich, one is encouraged to go to a large body of flowing water (ocean, lake, river, and so on) and to reflect upon what s/he would like to dispose of in one's behavior or way of being in the past year, as part of one's commitment to improve oneself in the coming year.

For our own social justice twist, please join us on October 2nd, 3-5pm, at Lathrop Homes to observe Tashlich with some of our diverse community partners. Together, we will look to the future about what we can accomplish in the upcoming year.
