The Jewish Federation of Northwest Indiana is excited to announce the performance of the Ga’aton Dance Group from the Galilee in Israel. The dance concert will be Tuesday, March 13, at 7 p.m. at Wirt-Emerson Visual and Performing Arts Academy Theatre, 210 N. Grand Blvd., Gary, IN 46403. Nine dancers comprise the ensemble on tour in the Midwest. In addition to performing a variety of dance pieces created by the young Israeli choreographers, the members of the ensemble will conduct dance workshops in several area schools for ballet, modern dance, folklore and repertoire.
The Kibbutz Ga'aton Dance Group was founded in 1977 by Mrs. Yehudith Arnon with the aim of training graduate students to become dancers in the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Co. (KCDC). Yehudith, a Holocaust survivor, is a winner of ISPA Prize (International Society for the Performing Arts) for 1997 and Israel Prize for 1998. For this season 2011/12, Yaniv Avraham, a Bat-Sheva former dancer and the Kibbutz Ga'aton Dance Group graduate, joined Einav Levy as an Artistic Advisor. Together they bring freshness and new approaches to the well-known intensive dance program, including well known teachers and choreographers from Israel and abroad. Kibbutz Ga'aton Dance Group is located in Kibbutz Ga’aton near the KCDC which now artistically directed by Yehudith’s former student, Rami Be’er, the KCDC’s choreographer for many years. Ga'aton Dance Group graduates are now dancers, choreographers and teachers, In Israel and abroad.
The Jewish Federation of Northwest Indiana is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching Jewish Life in Northwest Indiana, Israel and around the world through service, programming, advocacy,
and fundraising. To that end, it is a member of the Partnership2Gether consortium of 15 Midwest communities promoting people-to-people relationships with the Western Galilee through cultural, social, medical, educational and economic programs.
