Conversations at the Vilna is a series of spirited discussions around the Vilna Shul's old study table with local scholars and authors about topics relevant to Jewish identity. Jessica Dello Russo will lead this Conversation about the Jewish catacombs of Rome. Jessica is a graduate of the Vatican's Institute for Christian Archaeology in Rome and a longtime collaborator with the International Catacomb Society, an organization founded in 1980 by Vilna Shul member Estelle Shohet Brettman for "the preservation and documentation of the Roman catacombs and other sites that illustrate the common influences on Jewish, Christian and pagan iconography and funeral practices during the time of the Roman Empire." A number of Jessica's articles on the Jewish catacombs of Rome are now available on the International Catacomb Society website. She has guided many organizations, schools and individuals through these historic sites, and continues to document their excavation.
