"Faith Quilts: Inspirational Jewish Women" exhibit

Category :: Fundraiser
The exhibit “Faith Quilts: Inspirational Jewish Women” is now on display at the Vilna Shul. In 2005-06 as part of the Faith Quilts Project, a group of women were asked to create quilt squares that honor special women who have had a positive influence on their lives or who they would like to “invite” into their sukkah. The sukkah is part of the holiday of Sukkot, Feast of Booths, when Jews traditionally build a temporary structure to remind us of the type of structures our people lived in when they left Egypt and wandered in the desert for forty years. The exhibit is a colorful, vibrant kaleidoscope of skillfully crafted tributes to grandmothers, mothers, daughters, and friends. Each square is accompanied by a card explaining the quilter’s dedication. One quilter wrote “My grandmother, my Bubbie – is always there, and always has been. Her Yiddish lullabies, mandel bread, and family stories about growing up in Boston have guided me and taught me for as long as I can remember.” We encourage you to visit this meaningful and moving exhibit, and be inspired to give thanks for the special women in your own life!
This exhibit will be on display until October 30, 2011. The Vilna Shul, Boston’s Center for Jewish Culture, is open Wednesday – Friday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sundays from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.
