Conversations at the Vilna: Augustine and the Jews: A Christian Defense of Jews and Judaism
Conversations at the Vilna is a series of spirited discussions around the Vilna Shul's old study table with local scholars, authors, artists, and community leaders about topics relevant to Jewish identity. This conversation will be led by author Paula Fredriksen, who will discuss her book Augustine and the Jews: A Christian Defense of Jews and Judaism.
Fredriksen’s provocative book traces the social and intellectual forces that led to the development of Christian anti-Judaism and shows how and why Augustine challenged this toxic tradition. The book traces a tangled history while relating the story of one man’s astonishing, and unique, response to it.
This event will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Vilna Shul, Boston’s Center for Jewish Culture, 18 Phillips St, Boston. It will be co-sponsored by the JCC. The admission cost is $8 for JCC and Vilna Shul members, $10 for non-members. Bagels and beverages will be provided. Registration is appreciated - please email
