Adoption and the Jewish Community

Category :: Lecture
Congregation Eitz Chayim invites you to join in the discussion!

Adoption and the Jewish Community: A Revolution in the Family

Jews adopt children at higher rates than the U.S. population at large. This not only results in greater complexity within the affected families, but also raises profound issues for the Jewish community relating to identity, culture, race and ethnicity. It also adds an important new dimension to the question, “Who is a Jew?”

Leading the discussion will be Adam Pertman, a Pulitzer-nominated, former journalist with The Boston Globe, who is now a leading expert on adoption and family issues. Pertman is the Executive Director of the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute, the pre-eminent research, policy and education organization in its field. He is the author of “Adoption Nation: How the Adoption Revolution is Transforming Our Families – and America” and “Adoption by Lesbians and Gay Men: A New Dimension in Family Diversity.”
