The National Gaucher Foundation is an approved, non-profit organization that disseminates information to the general public and medical community about this genetic disease and supports patients with Gaucher disease. 94% of all donations go directly toward these goals.
Gaucher is a debilitating genetic disease that is painful, can be fatal and can affect anyone. Both parents must carry the Gaucher gene to pass it to their children and the disease can be detected through a blood test. There is no cure, but there is treatment for Gaucher Type 1, the most common form of the disease. Gaucher can cause bone pain, easily broken bones, osteoporosis, distended stomach due to an enlarged liver and/or spleen, easy bruising and bleeding, nosebleeds, fatigue and anemia.
