Congregation Ner Tamid Chanukah & Mitzvah Service

Category :: Community
Congregation Ner Tamid, a young and growing dynamic West Cobb Reform Jewish congregation, will be hosting a Chanukah and Mitzvah Shabbat Service on Friday Evening, December 3, 2010.

The evening will begin with a Mitzvah Hour from 6-7pm, followed by a Shabbat Chanukah Service from 7-8pm. During the Mitzvah Hour, we will have several small mitzvah projects available that both children and adults can participate in, including letters to soldiers, goody bags for local firefighters and police, blanket making for Project Linus, and creating toiletry packages for the homeless. Participate in one project or several, as we give back during this Chanukah season. After the Mitzvah Hour, our Chanukah service will include special Chanukah songs, Tot Shabbat with a holiday craft project, and menorah lighting.

Services will be led by Rabbi Thomas P. Liebschutz, D.D., D. Min., and held in borrowed space at Christ Lutheran Church, 176 West Sandtown Rd, Marietta, GA 30064.

For more about Congregation Ner Tamid, visit www.mynertamid.org or call 678-264-9575.

Congregation Ner Tamid was formed in May of 2006 to service the needs of north Marietta, Dallas, Kennesaw and surrounding areas. We are an unaffiliated Reform synagogue focused on forming relationships; those between members of our community and your relationship with your synagogue.
Mitzvahs:
Mitzvah Hour from 6-7pm prior to Shabbat services (at 7pm) with Chanukah songs and a menorah lighting.

During this hour, we will have 8 stations, representing each of the nights of Chanukah, where both adults and children can participate in one or several mitzvah projects.
1. Pizza IDF (Israel Defense Forces)
Children and adults can create drawings and thank you notes for our IDF soldiers.
2. Aviv Celebrations: Older Jewish Community Support
Children and adults can create birthday and get well cards for clients in Aviv Older Adult Services
3. Send Care Packages to U.S. Soldiers
Children and adults can create care packages for a U.S. Soldier stationed overseas, including a personal card or note.
4. Project Linus
Help Ner Tamid 'blanketeers' create handmade no-sew blankets for an ill child in need. (Takes about 30 minutes to complete each blanket. Anyone can do it - no sewing experience needed!)
5. Ben Massel Dental Clinic
Assemble dental kits for patients (metro Atlanta's indigent population) for the Ben Massell Dental Clinic, a program of Jewish Family Services.
6. Support our Local Fire Fighters and Police Officers
Make cards and assemble 'goodie' bags for our local heroes.
7. Kosher Food Pantry
Contribute kosher canned food for the Kosher Food Pantry of Jewish Family Services.
8. Mitzvah for Christ Lutheran Church
Help clean a few toys in the Nursery of Christ Lutheran Church, who has so generously allowed us to use their space for services.
